Abstract:

The disappearance of tropical forests remains a matter of concern for the scientific community as a whole, and leaves many players in the field of sustainable management to find solutions. Among the most appropriate solutions are methods for germinating and growing certain forest species in nurseries. It is within this framework that this study was carried out, with the main aim of strengthening the foundations of silviculture for the species Ricinodendron heudelotii in the nursery greenhouse of the Ecole Nationale de Supérieure d'Agronomie et de Foresterie (ENSAF). Two treatment methods were used, with 58 seeds each sown in the phytocalls (treatment with scarification and without treatment). The results showed that 52 seeds germinated in the untreated method, giving a germination rate of 89.66%. In contrast, no seeds germinated in the scarification method. The first germination took place on the 13th day after sowing. This germination ended on the 39th day. R. heudelotii growth evolved with time, with the 11th week, i.e. 77 days of observation, showing the highest averages with 64.76±13.89 cm in height, 1.90±3.17 cm in diameter and 9.96±1.94 in number of leaves, with highly significant differences between weeks (P value = 0.000). R. heudelotii grew faster in height than in diameter (R²=0.4429). This study concluded that R. heudelotii shows good germination and growth.
